KAZAKHSTAN is the world’s 9th largest country in area. Geographically, the country is located deep in Eurasia, on the crossroads between Europe and Asia. The country’s population exceeds 15.5 million. Astana is its national capital. Almaty is the country’s biggest city and its long-standing economic, cultural and educational centre.

In 2011, Kazakhstan will be hosting the 7th Winter Asian Games. Currently, Kazakhstan is preparing for this world’s second most important sport event. The Asian Games will be held in Astana and Almaty on 30 January through 6 February 2011, and will become not only the most important event in Kazakhstan’s sport life but also a new incentive for the Almaty and the hole region.

As of 2009, all macroeconomic indicators are stable and keep growing. The GDP remains positive. During the four months in 2010, the GDP growth exceeded 7%.

Direct foreign investment in Kazakhstan’s economy achieved US$ 108 billion. To date, the country has 20,000 enterprises with foreign capital. Besides, Kazakhstan boasts a dynamic mining industry, non-ferrous and ferrous metallurgy, mechanical engineering, construction industry, small and medium business, etc. The current industrial development map of Kazakhstan includes more than 100 projects totalling US$ 45 billion.
